The Heavy Pets and LarJar at Capital Ale House this Tuesday, 4-6-2010

The great south-Florida-based band the Heavy Pets will be performing at the Capital Ale House this Tuesday night.  LarJar will be opening the show, kicking at 8pm with a set of your favorite experimental organ-funk, and the Pets will take the stage shortly after with their explosive blend of jam rock, funk and reggae grooves.  Don’t miss the show, it starts around 8, it’s lookin’ to be a crowded one so come early, grab some food and a tasty beverage and get ready to get up and get down with it!

The Many Adventures of…

LarJar will be releasing their first full-length studio album this February. The album features a host of special guests, original tunes and some great artwork, so have a look and a listen. We’ve got several sample cuts from the album over on the music page. Copies of the disc will be available at shows, including our upcoming February 5 performance at City Dogs. Dig it!

The Ripple Effect! LarJar featured in Magazine33

Check out the article about LarJar in the premier issue of Magazine33, Richmond’s new art/culture/music online mag.  Our good friend Meredith Ripple took the time to sit down with the band a few weeks ago and put together a great think-piece on all things LarJar.  Tho it’s impossible to capture our combined glory in mere ink-and-paper descriptions, we like to think she came pretty close.  The article includes the track “Ridin’ the Rails” from our forthcoming album.  Cheers!

Reinvigorated!

After a week off, the band has returned to the residency on top of their game.  As a special treat, we’re releasing a new track from the hotly anticipated “Many Adventures of…” album for your enjoyment.  Take it all in from our free player below.  See you Wednesday night, 10p.m. at Cary Street Cafe!

An additional special thanks to those of you who came out last week and caught Shiva Star’s guest performance.  These Southside Funk veterans were happy to shed some four-piece electro-groove jazz for ya’ll and look forward to doing it again.

Tonight- Seis De Mayo Throwdown @ Cary Street Cafe feat. J3Project

We’ll be holding down yet another Wednesday night at Cary Street Cafe, this time supported by our good friends the J3Project.  This new incarnation of Richmond jazz/funk/dance/electro bands recently assembled by Justin Huppmann promises a new take on his tried-and-true sound.  JRich has re-tooled his rig, incorporating a new synth-enabled stratocaster and assorted tone-generating tomfoolery.  The trio features Mondo on Bass and Josh Santamaria on drums.  Get there early and stay late.  We’ve got some new hot fire cooking in the form of a recently wrapped album full of heady new jams.  Check back as we unleash further tracks from the disc here on the site.

Live from the National 4-17-09

This Saturday we’ll be releasing the set “Live from the National” for free across the internet. We were fortunate enough to get a great soundboard recording of the show and are excited to be able to share it with you. Limited edition discs will be available at shows and the entire set will be available for download. Check back this weekend for links and fresh new jams!

Nationalized!

We’d like to extend a sincere “THANK YOU!” to everyone that made it out to the National last Friday night.  The whole event was a great success thanks to the huge outpouring of support from friends, family and everyone else we harrassed into picking up tickets and coming out for the show.  Grinding Stone, the MamaJamuhs and Silo Effect all played excellent sets, the crowd was attentive and lively, and we look forward to many more such events in the future.

Easy Alliances - This Friday - LarJar feat. Dave Decker

This Friday, April 3 we’ll be kicking out the jams at Grace Yoga, a great new local yoga/fitness/art/music space to celebrate the opening of “Easy Alliances”, an art exhibition by Dave Klemencic and Dave Decker.  The opening will run from 7 to 10, with live music starting around 8.

Last night we were fortunate enough to have Dave Decker join us on percussion for the second set of our Wednesday night Cary Street Cafe show.  The Super Octavius opened the show with a set of psychedelic rock that touched on Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty and more.  Dave Decker will be featured on percussion for Friday night’s show, and we’re expecting a thumpin’ good time.

Grace Yoga is located at 209 N. Foushee Street between Broad and Grace.  Its located within the reaches of the First Friday downtown gallery scene.  This is their second art opening, both have been curated by Deirdre Nivala whose efforts have seen the blooming of Artemis Gallery on Main Street and a number of other local art spaces.  The opening including live music, snacks and a hot tea bar will be free of charge.  Please take a moment to drop by and celebrate with us.
