About the Band

The LarJar Band is a Richmond, VA based jam/funk band that steers regularly into the deep waters of jazz, rock and experimental groove music.

Formed in December of 2006, the band’s current iteration consists of:

Larry Alen Jarrell on drums and percussion

Before getting together musically, Larry and Jason formed the rhythm section of Seven Pound Star, a folk-influenced jam rock band performing around the region.  Dave Klemencic hails from Southside Funk, the Boulevard Duo and numerous other jazz and jam projects.  Initially sitting in the Seven Pound on numerous gigs and festival dates, Dave and the Jarrells soon struck out on their own, welding a new sound together that derives from its prior influences but also strikes out in a fresh direction.

The band has been performing every Wednesday at Cary Street Cafe in Richmond for over a year, along with hosting two multi-band festivals (LarJarFest) and playing numerous club dates on their own and supporting other local and regional bands.  2009 is promising to be the best year yet, with the band preparing to issue their first full-length disc and stepping out of the city to tour and test their sound on the road.
